raffia series.01

the raffia series started as a two-year material research project that explored and questioned how an industrial material (industrial raffia) made its way into traditional crafts (palm-weaving artisans) to create and promote a new language.

the result of this material exploration culminates in a collection of unique lamps that aim to answer that question, intersecting manual techniques with industrial processes—an exchange between traditional and contemporary crafts.

the first editions called raffia series0.1 was presented at comercio popular (chi. usa).

this project is a constant practice with mexican artisan don miguel agustín vega.
